Picture this... You are standing on the edge of a cliff. As you look across the vast expanse at another cliff, you see God waiting for you, but you cannot go to Him. The distance between God and you is so large.
Why is the distance so great?
Because all people have sinned. No one is perfect.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23)
"We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:6)
God is perfect; therefore, we cannot know Him.
Sin causes separation between you and God. Sin needs to be punished, and the punishment for sin is death.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
"Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment." (Hebrews 9:27)
